“The wound is the place where the light enters you.” —Rumi
Kintsugi is a Japanese technique for repairing broken ceramics in which pieces are reassembled and affixed with a metallic gold lacquer. This technique accentuates the cracks in each piece, thereby honoring the history of the object and making it more beautiful than before. This quilt is a take on the traditional Broken Dishes quilt block. The four modern “dishes” in the center, made whole by the quilt’s negative space, only exist because of the chaos that surrounds them. Quilting by Christine Perrigo.
