Roll the Dice
by Carla Keahey

This quilt’s creation was an exercise in risk taking. The title reflects not only the risk taken in creating an original design, but it also represents a technique used in creation of the design. Inspired by the traditional Robbing Peter to Pay Paul quilt pattern, I started by dissecting the original block and assigning these partial blocks a number one through six, adding a half-square-
triangle option to create straight lines among the curves. I then rolled dice and started drawing the blocks into a grid as dictated by the dice. In the final construction, I experimented with placement, but the original intent remains. I chose to place one complete Robbing Peter to Pay Paul block, shown in yellow, to pay homage to its inspiration and to demonstrate the whole from which these parts originated.
